BED LINEN

Signoria Firenze utilizes the finest quality natural fabrics – 100% extra-long staple cotton, linen and wool to achieve luxury and durability while still maintaining exceptional design elements that will bring elegance, joy and harmony to your home.
By following proper care instructions our products will enhance the comfort and style of your home for many years. It is important to remember, nearly all of our fabrics are made from natural fibers that can be machine-washed at home; however, please be sure to read the laundering instructions below and suggested care label on each item for best results.

General Care Guidelines (n.b: please read the “SPECIAL NOTE” section)

Pre-Wash: always pre-wash new bed linens before using. This first wash is important for setting the threads, preserving the fabric's beauty and prolonging its life. Be sure to fully unfold and use minimal liquid detergent.

For the first pre-wash please refer to the care label on each item and our machine-washing suggestions below.

Use of a fabric softener (liquid or dryer sheets) is not recommended for any fine linens, as it coats and weakens natural fibers.

Detergents: Your Signoria luxury linens will soften naturally with frequent use. A mild detergent that is appropriate for luxury linen is recommended. Detergents with bluing agents or whiteners are not recommended. LINENWASH is suggested for tough stain removal washings.

Rotation: We recommend using at least three sets of bed linens in rotation: one on the bed, one in the laundry and one in the linen closet. This will afford each set proper rotation and a rest from use and a rest from wash.  We also recommend that you wash matching linens (e.g. sheets and pillowcases) together, as each piece should be cared for similarly, regardless of whether or not it is stained or soiled.

Shrinkage: Linens washed in hot water or dried at hot temperatures will shrink excessively. Luke warm or cold wash and low heat dry or line-dry are the usual recommended settings.

Our linens are sized to allow for 3%-4% shrinkage in length & width.

Garment Dyed Collections: These bed linens were dyed & finished in a special production process to obtain its vintage look. Exposure to direct sunlight or the use of common stain removal chemicals can result in discoloration. These items have already been prewashed and shrunk during the special finishing process.

Machine Washing

  • Do not overload the washing machine
  • Use a mild detergent
  • Wash bed linens separate from other fabrics especially synthetics that may pill and affect the smoothness of the bed linens.
  • Linens should be separated into light and dark colors and washed separately from anything else
  • Wash 100% linen and linen/cotton blends separately to avoid abrasion from other fibers especially synthetic fibers. Wash delicate cycle cold water.
  • Do not pour detergent directly on fabric; add the detergent to the water first and then add your linens.
  • Do notuse bleach or detergents with bluing agents or whiteners- these may weaken fibers and cause them to yellow.
  • Unless linens are very stained or soiled you may reduce the recommended amount of detergent.
  • Use a delicate spin cycle
  • Remove washed bedding promptly from the washing machine. This helps reduce wrinkling and minimizes the risk of color bleeding from a dark-colored border onto a light background. Shaking damp linens out before drying on a low heat setting will also help reduce wrinkles. Fabric softeners and dryer sheets are notrecommended as their chemicals prevent the bed linens from naturally becoming softer over time. Fine linens will begin to soften after 3-4 washings.

Drying

  • Shake out linens before placing in the dryer
  • Do not use dryer sheets or softeners
  • Do not overload the dryer
  • Tumble dry low heat or delicate cycle; remove while still damp for less wrinkling
  • Cotton velvet should not be tumbled dried; lay flat to dry

Ironing

  • Iron while still damp for best and easiest results
  • Use steam and iron settings for appropriate fabrics types; cotton, linen etc.
  • Sateen and Jacquards: iron on the reverse side
  • Embroidered items and quilted fabrics: iron on the reverse side to preserve the 3 dimensional embroidery
  • Do not iron velvet or hang in a bathroom during a shower
  • Quilted fabrics: iron if desired, low heat

SATEEN

Sateen fabrics exhibit a silky-smooth sheen, a touch that caresses the skin, and a rich luxurious look. Sateens are available from 300 to 1000 thread counts. The long cotton fibers guarantee long durability against pilling and washing. In Sateen 600tc the yarns are double twisted in both fabric directions, while in our Sateen 1000 the fabric is made with 4 twisted yarns that enhances durability even further while providing a silky smooth touch.

A new entry in Signoria’s Sateen family is Nuvola. Born from an innovative finishing technique, the 100% extra-long staple cotton sateen 600 thread count exhibits the softest touch to the skin and a most graceful drapability.

The Signoria 300 thread count sateen is offered in a myriad of colors. In addition to showcasing these colors in our solid colored Raffaello collection, Signoria coordinates and matches these colors to create other exciting collections whereby the colors and the craftsmanship become the most appreciated features. Sateen is usually a little thicker and more tightly woven compared to Percale. It has a soft, inviting touch, perfect to snuggle into bed with during the cold winter months.

LINEN

Linen is a cellulosic fiber derived from the stem of the flax plant. Important attributes include durability and abrasion resistance. Linen has a clean crisp hand and is adored for its subtle natural wrinkles and timeless casual elegance. Linen’s coolness and moisture wicking attributes make it the perfect bedding for those warm summer nights because the moisture evaporates quickly and naturally. As time goes by, your linen bedding will continue to “age“ like a fine wine, becoming softer with use and each laundering and picking up more of the vintage look as it naturally wears.  A special finishing technique makes Signoria’s Donatella Collection softer and more drapable than most other 100% linen collections.

Any reference to thread count (TC) refers to the commonly accepted commercial definition of the number of yarns per square inch including 2 ply yarns for obtaining total thread count. It is not a reference to the “technical” definition as promulgated by ASTM Standard D 3775 which considers 2 or more ply yarns as one thread or end. Applying D 3775 to multiple ply yarns will result in a lower technical thread count than the commercial definition.
